Assessment and Reporting
Assessing our pupils and tracking the progress they make is fundamental to teaching and learning. Assessment is a continuous process in the teaching and learning that takes place in school. To support this, we use a very effective piece of software to track the progress of each individual child and set targets to inform their learning.
On entry to the Foundation Stage, the children undertake a ‘Baseline’ assessment to identify their strengths and areas of development.
In Key Stage 1, children undertake the two statutory assessments – the Phonic Screening test at the end of Year 1 and the National Curriculum Assessments (SATs) at the end of Year 2, during May.
In Key Stage 2, children in Year 3 and 5 undertake non-statutory assessments. In Year 3, children complete a National Multiplication Tables Check in the Summer term and in Year 6 children undertake the end of Key Stage 2 SATs. These results are reported individually to the parents/carers through end of year reports, in addition parents will receive an Assessment Summary at the end of the Spring/Autumn term.
At the end of each half term, all children are formally assessed in Reading, Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar, Phonics and Mathematics, dependent upon year group. In Writing, children complete a piece of Extended Writing once per half term. These pieces are assessed against the objectives within the 2014 revised National Curriculum.
